How Silkroad C&T used VoicePing for real-time English to Korean translation at their Technology Academy seminar featuring a world-renowned construction chemistry expert.
With the growing prevalence of international platforms for sharing technology and knowledge, the significance of accurate and swift real-time translation tools is increasingly emphasized, particularly in highly specialized fields where global information exchange is vital.
Recently, during a pre-lecture session of the “Silkroad Technology Academy” held in Korea, we had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Hyunsub Kim of Silkroad C&T. He utilized VoicePing at a seminar featuring Professor Johan Plank from the Technical University of Munich, a globally recognized authority in construction chemistry.
Mr. Kim’s Position and Role
I work as a Senior Researcher at the R&D Center of Silkroad C&T Korea. My primary responsibility is the development of chemical admixtures for concrete. Recently, I have been involved in the development of Polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer based on EPEG.
Why VoicePing?
What made you consider introducing a voice translation tool in the first place, and why did you choose VoicePing?
Silkroad C&T is a specialized company in construction materials, and we operate the “Silkroad Technology Academy” to cultivate experts aimed at enhancing safety and quality in the Korean construction industry. The “Silkroad Technology Academy” is a joint program between Silkroad C&T and the RISE Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation at Hanyang University ERICA Campus, designed to train specialists in concrete and chemical admixtures who will lead the construction sector.
At the recent “Silkroad Technology Academy” event, we invited Professor Johan Plank from the Technical University of Munich, a world-renowned authority in construction chemistry, to deliver a lecture titled “The Critical Role of Chemical Admixtures for a Successful Transition to Low Carbon Green Binders.” Since the lecture was conducted in English by a German speaker, it was essential to provide accurate Korean translation for attendees who were not fully proficient in English.
To find an accurate and swift real-time translation tool, we tested various services including Galaxy AI, Naver Papago, and Google Translate. Among them, VoicePing demonstrated the best performance, which led us to select it. Additionally, the convenience of accessing the service quickly via QR code without requiring users to install a separate app was a significant advantage.
Participants could easily understand English technical terms through real-time translation
Results
Did using VoicePing actually help solve the challenges you faced?
Yes, Professor Johann Plank’s lecture contained many technical terms related to construction chemistry. However, by using VoicePing, we were able to smoothly deliver the lecture content in Korean, enabling everyone to easily understand the lecture without language barriers.
Did you receive any feedback from the participants?
The participants seemed to find the simultaneous interpretation experience through VoicePing very impressive. Many were seen using their own earphones to listen to the real-time translations, and several mentioned that being able to view both the original English script and the Korean translation side by side made the content much easier to understand.
Real-time translation helped participants understand technical content
Were there any points where you felt improvements were needed?
The duration for continuous real-time translation is currently limited to 120 minutes, which means the session must be paused and restarted after that time. Fortunately, the lecture was about 110 minutes long, so we were able to use it without any issues. However, in cases where the lecture runs longer than expected or multiple sessions are scheduled back-to-back, this could become inconvenient.
Future Goals
What are your future goals and outlook?
At Silkroad C&T, we follow the management philosophy that “technology is the future.” The Advanced Materials Research Team at our R&D Center is focused on developing core technologies for chemical admixtures used in concrete. With operational bases in Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand, we are strengthening our presence in the Asian market while also striving to develop high-performance, globally competitive products.
At the same time, we are committed to addressing environmental challenges. Our top priority is developing low-carbon, eco-friendly products to support carbon neutrality, and we are doing our best to contribute to a more sustainable future.
Summary
Silkroad C&T introduced VoicePing during a pre-lecture session of the “Silkroad Technology Academy” held in Korea, featuring a seminar by Professor Johann Plank from the Technical University of Munich. As the lecture was conducted in English, VoicePing was used in place of simultaneous interpretation, enabling real-time Korean translation and helping the audience understand the content accurately.
Participants reported a high level of satisfaction, noting that the real-time and accurate translations significantly improved their understanding of the lecture. The ability to access the service easily via QR code, without the need to install a separate app, was also well received.
VoicePing supports events in multiple languages, and academic discounts are available for educational institutions.
