Regional Sales Engineer | Daikin Holdings Singapore Pte Ltd
The Regional Sales Engineer’s Role in the Solutions Business
Naoki Kono: As Daikin Industries’ regional headquarters for solutions in Asia and Oceania, Daikin Holdings Singapore supports sales companies throughout the region.
I work as a Regional Sales Engineer. In particular, I work with our sales companies on how to market solutions that combine air-conditioning equipment with control and management systems, supporting the development of new business models and sales promotion.
Helping Participants Follow the Details of a Meeting in English
Naoki Kono: This meeting brought together colleagues, including Managing Directors and Managers, from Daikin’s headquarters in Japan and sales companies across Asia and Oceania. English was the official language of the meeting.
Many participants are not native English speakers. For those joining from Japan, Taiwan and Thailand in particular, it could be difficult to fully grasp detailed discussions and nuances in a meeting conducted entirely in English. We introduced real-time translation to help participants understand the meeting and share information more effectively.
Viewing Real-Time Translations on PCs and Smartphones
Naoki Kono: During the meeting, we provided real-time translation that participants could view on their own PCs or smartphones. The meeting itself continued in English, while anyone who needed translation could follow along on their own device.
We started the translation on a Windows PC used by the organizers and shared a QR code for participants to join. It was also useful to be able to add industry-specific terminology and proper nouns during the meeting to help improve translation accuracy.

Feedback from Organizers and Participants
The Organizers’ Perspective
Translation quality was very good when speakers spoke clearly and at a moderate pace. The ability to add industry-specific terms during the meeting was also rated as particularly useful.
The Participants’ Perspective
Participants said the experience was similar to the live transcript translation they regularly use in Teams, and that both usability and translation accuracy met their needs. Some participants displayed the meeting materials and translations side by side on the same PC.
Points to Keep in Mind
When a speaker spoke very quickly, however, there were times when the translated text struggled to keep up and appeared to pause briefly. To help important explanations get across, it is also worth asking speakers to speak clearly and at a moderate pace.

Comparing Costs with Interpreters: A Question for Future Meetings
Naoki Kono: During the interview, we discussed the possibility of considering VoicePing as an option, given the significant cost of arranging interpreters for large annual meetings.
However, this use of VoicePing did not include a numerical assessment of the cost difference or how far it could replace interpreting services. For future meetings, we will consider the appropriate use and cost-effectiveness in light of the meeting’s purpose, size, required level of support and operating conditions.
Key Takeaways
Used at an English-language regional meeting. VoicePing helped participants, including non-native English speakers, follow the discussion.
Available on PCs and smartphones. Participants viewed real-time translations on their own devices.
Terminology added during the meeting. Industry terms and proper nouns were registered to help improve translation accuracy.
Speaking pace affects the experience. Results were good with clear speech at a moderate pace; very fast speech was sometimes difficult for the translation to keep up with.
Cost-effectiveness remains to be evaluated. Comparisons with arranging interpreters will depend on the purpose of the meeting and the level of support required.
